01 / Background
Turning Economic Data into a City Journey Viewers Can Follow
Cangqian Subdistrict in Hangzhou needed to turn its annual economic and innovation achievements into an opening film suited to screening at a conference. The original text covered office buildings, industries, honors and future goals, and in production it was condensed into a story of about two minutes. The final direction was to bring the Cang Xiaolong IP into real city scenes, with the character leading viewers through one section after another, so that every set of figures has its own scene and its own place in the sequence.
The venue had a screen 21 meters wide and 5.5 meters high, so the assets were composed for 21:9, with the character, buildings and text all needing to read clearly. The Digital Economy Conference version first established the route “enter the computer, fly over the city, travel through innovation spaces, bring back the AI fruit”; the later performance review conference kept the same IP and style, extending about 90 seconds of content to the international neighborhood, governance and public services.
02 / Creative Highlights
From City Data to Residents' Daily Lives
01
Giving the Data a Place with Real Landmarks
The economic section places Cang Xiaolong among office towers, a shopping street, factories and an academic exchange venue, with floating text appearing in turn as the character flies. In production, we specifically gathered photos of local landmarks and matched the scale of the character to the buildings, so audiences recognize Cangqian at a glance. The consumer spending figures sit on a shopping street close to ground level, anchored in a real place where people live their lives.
02
One AI Fruit Ties the Second Half Together
After diving into a data tunnel, the character approaches a tech tree and, in a first-person view, reaches out with both hands to pick a glowing fruit marked AI, then carries it back to the city and finally places it into a control console. The fruit stays on screen through several scenes, linking tech achievements, future development and the closing “ALL IN AI” into a single purposeful journey.
03
Turning Governance Figures into Services You Can Watch
The performance review version moves through a series of actions: an honor book flipping open, residents scanning codes to redeem rewards, the character putting on glasses for a tech experience, playing chess with an elderly resident. Captions and data screens give the headline figures, while interactions between people show the specific services, bringing “development” down into residents' everyday lives.
04
Giving the Character and the Text Their Own Space on the Wide Screen
Most frames place the character on one side, with buildings or information screens spread across the other; key moments, such as approaching the tech tree or receiving a gift, cut in closer. Wide shots let the audience take in the whole city, and close-ups bring their attention back to what Cang Xiaolong is doing.

One Film Aired, a Second One Ordered
The first film opened the Hangzhou Digital Economy Conference and was well received on site, so Cangqian Subdistrict then asked us to make a second one for its performance review conference. The two films run 2:09 and 1:34 and share the same Cang Xiaolong and the same visual style.
The two films tell the year's story as an industry journey and a public-services journey respectively, and the same IP character and style can carry on in future promotion.
Case Study
Liandan AI Studio × Cangqian Subdistrict, Hangzhou | The Subdistrict's IP Character Cang Xiaolong Takes the Whole Audience on a Flight over Cangqian
An annual economic report with dozens of figures.
It had to open the Hangzhou Digital Economy Conference on a screen 21 meters wide and 5.5 meters high.
We made Cangqian Subdistrict's IP character Cang Xiaolong the guide: it dives from a computer screen into Cangqian and rides a hoverboard over office towers, factories, a shopping street and a port, with figures appearing all along the way.
After the film played at the conference, the subdistrict asked us to make a second one for its annual performance review conference.

How Does an Economic Report Become a Two-Minute Opening Film?
The subdistrict gave us its full annual report: fiscal revenue, the building economy, industry, consumer spending, investment, R&D, foreign trade, honors and innovation, through to its 2026 goals.
We first read the script through as voiceover, and it ran over two minutes. So we trimmed the text while keeping the main thread, brought it down to about two minutes, and then found an image for each figure, one by one.
The subdistrict was also clear about what it wanted: bring the IP character into the real Cangqian and let it do the introductions.
So the whole film is one flight: fiscal revenue floats between office towers, service-sector revenue is a ring chart swiped open while flying past a hotel, industrial output stands on the roof of a glass factory, and consumer spending comes with gift boxes and gold coins raining from the sky.
Each shot runs as long as its voiceover line. If a line runs past 5 seconds, we generate a 10-second shot instead of forcing a hard cut.
Clip · 00:18–00:24
The data appears alongside the character
Cang Xiaolong glides close past the high-rises with fiscal revenue floating in midair; around the corner, the numbers of 100-million and 10-million-yuan buildings light up on either side.
02
Getting Cang Xiaolong Right First
Cang Xiaolong is a character the subdistrict already uses, as an inflatable mascot and in flat graphics. Many in the audience know it, so it couldn't drift off-model.
We first made a three-view turnaround and checked it point by point against the character on the subdistrict's WeChat Channels account: the shoes changed to pale green with white socks showing; a small tail added; the upper body lengthened slightly and the legs shortened; no black outline, with the horns and clothing kept three-dimensional in texture.
Next we settled how it moves in the film: a hoverboard glowing blue. The turnaround, the hoverboard pose and the frames already chosen together served as references for every shot that followed.
Cang Xiaolong turnaround: front, side and backPose reference on the hoverboard
Across two films and more than 50 shots, Cang Xiaolong looks exactly the same from start to finish.
03
Recognizable at a Glance: This Is Cangqian
Most of the audience at the conference were locals, so the city had to look like Cangqian, not just any city of the future.
Before production, we gathered real photos of the landmarks that would appear in the film: office towers, a hotel, the academic exchange center and innovation parks. When generating images, we first adjusted the real scenes to clear weather, then placed Cang Xiaolong in them and scaled the character down to match the size of the buildings.
At first, many shots were flying high above the rooftops. For the consumer spending figures, we brought Cang Xiaolong down to the shopping street and in front of the big screen outside a mall, and the frame suddenly felt alive with everyday life.
Flying past a hotel tower and swiping open the service-sector ring chartDown on the shopping street, gift boxes and gold coins rain from the sky
All frames share a 21:9 widescreen composition: Cang Xiaolong on one side and the data panel on the other, each in its own space, so they read clearly even from the back rows.
04
One AI Fruit Ties the Second Half Together
The first half covers the economy, with buildings and factories that are easy to film. The second half covers innovation and the future, full of abstract terms such as “national high-tech enterprises,” “Little Giants” and “patent counts.”
We added a prop for the second half: Cang Xiaolong rushes into a data tunnel and arrives before a giant tech tree, the camera switches to its point of view, and a pair of hands reaches out to pick a fruit marked AI.
Clip · 01:37–01:42
Picking the AI fruit
In a first-person view, the glowing fruit is picked; cutting back, Cang Xiaolong hugs it to its chest.
From then on it carries the fruit everywhere: flying over the “296X” industry characters, breaking through a red warning fog, passing the youth community in the old town, and finally walking into the control room to place the fruit into the console. The big screen lights up with “ALL IN AI, AI FOR ALL.”
Carrying the fruit back to the cityThe fruit goes into the console, and the slogan lights up
A long list of innovation achievements became a single goal the audience could see and follow. The closing slogan, too, had something to land on.
05
The Second Film: The Same Cang Xiaolong, in the Subdistrict's Daily Life
After the first film was delivered, the subdistrict ordered another for its annual performance review conference: about a minute and a half, keeping the original IP and visual style, with the economic section reusable and the content extended to the international neighborhood, rural revitalization, community governance and practical projects for residents.
This time the data was more fragmented, with over twenty items. We paired each with a small scene in which Cang Xiaolong takes part in person: watching foreign residents handle business in the reception hall, scanning a code for a gift at the points redemption station, putting on VR glasses at the emergency center, playing chess with an elderly man, riding a newly installed elevator with an elderly resident, and playing with building blocks with kindergarten children.

After the stills came out, we adjusted a few to fit the message more closely. For the Tiaoxi cultural landscape belt, the first draft had Cang Xiaolong taking a selfie in a railway-themed park; the final became an aerial view of fields with “Cangqian” planted into the rice paddies. For technology commercialization, the first draft had Cang Xiaolong playing with a robot dog; the final switched to a white robot handing over a pair of glasses, which leads straight into the following first-person shot of seeing Cangqian through the glasses.

Because the character and style were already in place, the second film took less than a week from receiving the script to finishing revisions.

What this project achieved
Figures in a government report are hard to remember when read out on their own.
This time we used a character everyone knows to string them into a route: setting off from a computer screen, flying over the real Cangqian, picking a fruit and bringing it back to the city. What the audience remembers isn't a data table, but the places Cang Xiaolong visited along the way.
For the subdistrict, Cang Xiaolong also went from a mascot to a character that can tell a story. The second film reused it directly, showing that the character and visuals can keep going.
AI let us create a dedicated image for each of dozens of data points within a few weeks; but which figure goes with which building, where the character stops and when the fruit appears still came down to creative judgment.
FAQ
FAQ
How do you keep an IP character consistent throughout an AI promo?
In this project, we first made a three-view turnaround based on the subdistrict's existing Cang Xiaolong character, checking the shoes, tail, body proportions and outline point by point, then settled the hoverboard pose. After that, every shot was generated with the turnaround, the hoverboard pose and the already chosen frames as references, so across more than 50 shots in two films, Cang Xiaolong always looks the same.
Can you adapt to ultra-wide screens at conference venues?
Yes. The screen at the Hangzhou Digital Economy Conference is 21 meters wide and 5.5 meters high. We generated all images with a 21:9 widescreen composition, placing the character and data panels on opposite sides, added surrounding graphics in the edit to fit the screen's proportions, and delivered a 4K version.
How long did a film like this take from brief to delivery?
The first film, at 2:09, started script revisions and character design in late January 2026 and was delivered at the end of February; along the way the subdistrict updated the script and figures once, and we reworked the storyboard to the new draft. The second film, at 1:34, reused the existing character and style and took less than a week from receiving the script to finishing revisions.
Was the data in the frames added in post-production?
In both films, the data panels floating among the towers and standing on big screens were generated directly by AI along with the images. They appear as the character flies and the camera moves, and look as if they belong in the scene. The voiceover subtitles at the bottom were added in post-production, with every number and line break checked sentence by sentence before delivery.
Approach
Condense the Information First, Then Unify the IP and the Widescreen Scenes
In production, we first read the script aloud to estimate its length, then allotted time to each shot according to the voiceover, keeping the main thread of the economy, innovation and the outlook for the future. When figures changed, the corresponding buildings, screens and actions in the script were rearranged too, and shot lengths followed the voiceover rather than being cut to fixed durations.
The character design used the subdistrict's existing IP as reference, refining the green shoes, tail, body proportions and outline; when generating images, the character turnaround, the pose riding the hoverboard and the already chosen frames were all used as references. For the city, we first gathered real-world references, then adjusted the character's size and the mood of the sky so the cartoon character blends naturally into the city scenes.
When generating motion for both films, we kept both the character and the text under control: the character walks forward, flies or interacts, while the on-screen text holds steady section by section. For the proportions of the venue screen, the main picture uses 21:9 throughout, with graphics around the edges of the screen in mind; subtitles and line breaks were checked repeatedly. The second film followed the new brief while keeping the original IP and style, weaving the economic content into the story of the subdistrict's public services.
