01 / Background
From watching online to arriving at the New Year's Eve venue
This on-site New Year's Eve film had to fit Kuaishou elements, the history of Shenyang's Fangcheng, today's lively street life and midnight wishes into about one minute. The project organizes all this as a young man's journey into the city: it starts with watching on a phone, tours the palace and neighborhoods from the air, lands among lanterns and an intangible-heritage paper-cut gallery, and finally arrives at the gala venue.
The miniature style lets landmarks, crowds and the orange Xiaokuai sit together at a sensible scale, and the warm light of the night scenes carries all the way to the New Year celebration. From spotting it on a phone, flying into the city and strolling the streets to counting down together in front of the stage, viewers follow the hero from Kuaishou all the way to the gala.
The project also delivered a standalone New Year greeting version and an event teaser, each about 23 seconds. Both shorts are set in daytime, with Xiaokuai walking past Shenyang Station, a European-style historic building, the Zhongjie archway, the Dazheng Hall of the Shenyang Imperial Palace and the riverbank beneath the TV tower: the greeting version sends New Year wishes on January 1, while the teaser spells out the gala's name, time and West Zhongjie location. The same miniature-city look ran from the midnight countdown through to the promotion before and after the gala.
02 / Creative Highlights
One journey linking Fangcheng's history and festive spirit
01
Turning watching on a phone into the start of a journey
The film opens over the shoulder of someone at home and goes into the phone, where the Kuaishou logo and the Fangcheng New Year's Eve poster first establish the destination. The glowing screen cuts to a passage through the city gate, then into a night sky where the hero, Xiaokuai and fellow travelers fly, so the brand exposure becomes, quite naturally, the act of flying into the city.
02
From a bird's-eye view of landmarks down to the streets
The palace, Laobian Dumpling Restaurant and the Liu Laogen Grand Stage appear one after another as a miniature cityscape, and the aerial view gives viewers an overall impression of Fangcheng first. Once the hero and Xiaokuai land, the camera turns to shops under lanterns and the paper-cut gallery, narrowing from the city panorama to the experience of walking the streets, stretching from historic landmarks to today's lively street life.
03
The venue stays the same, the numbers change
The countdown keeps a similar front-on composition of the venue, while the numbers take the form of network lines, light particles, plants, pixels, roof tiles and more, and the Xiaokuai figures on the rooftops on either side echo the number in the center. With the background unchanged and all the change concentrated in the countdown numbers, the audience's attention naturally focuses on the moment the New Year arrives.
04
Leaving midnight for the venue to complete together
The film counts down to 1 and goes straight into the New Year, with no “0”: the host leads the whole crowd in shouting midnight on site. After the numbers, the film cuts to fireworks, cheering crowds and greeting text, so as the story reaches its end it meets the excitement of the audience cheering together, and the film and the event flow into each other.

New Year's Eve countdown and greeting films
We delivered a 16:9 New Year's Eve countdown main film of about 63 seconds, plus a New Year greeting version and an event teaser of about 23 seconds each, covering the on-site New Year celebration, holiday greetings and the event invitation respectively.
Case Study
Liandan AI Studio × Kuaishou · Shenyang Fangcheng | Flying from a phone into Fangcheng and counting down into 2026
On the last night of 2025, Shenyang's West Zhongjie was hosting the 6th Kuaishou · Shenyang Fangcheng New Year's Eve Gala, and needed a countdown short to play before midnight.
Kuaishou and the Shenyang Fangcheng Cultural Tourism Area were very specific: about one minute, with Kuaishou elements, Fangcheng's history and how it has changed, today's lively street life, and finally the midnight countdown and greetings.
We used Kling AI to make a 63-second main film: a young man scrolling Kuaishou late at night flies through his phone screen into Fangcheng, sweeps over the Imperial Palace, lands in the streets, and finally stands at the gala stage counting down to the New Year.
Beyond the main film, we used the same look to make two more 23-second shorts: one New Year greeting and one event teaser.

01
Four things to fit into one minute
The client's script was packed with information: Kuaishou, Qing dynasty city walls, Republican-era Zhongjie, streams of bicycles in the 1980s, the Shenyang Imperial Palace, Laobian Dumpling Restaurant, the Liu Laogen Grand Stage, the Octagonal Pavilion, the snack street, paper cuts, the countdown and two greetings.
Lining up the landmarks one by one would just give viewers a string of scenic postcards. We strung them together into one person's journey: scrolling Kuaishou at home late at night → pulled into the screen → flying over the palace and neighborhoods → landing to stroll the streets → stepping up to the gala stage. Viewers follow him, and the landmarks appear one after another.
Clip · 00:03–00:09
Diving in through the screen
The New Year's Eve poster lights up the screen, the camera rushes straight into it, and the journey begins.
Kuaishou's elements sit along this route too: the story starts on Kuaishou's launch screen, the fellow travelers wear Kuaishou outfits, Kuaishou's IP character Xiaokuai stays by the hero's side the whole way, and during the countdown it even sits on the rooftops on both sides of the venue.
02
A miniature city: landmarks, people and Xiaokuai at the same scale
The client wanted the popular “miniature ancient-style world” look. It's like looking at a finely crafted model, and the advantage is that the palace, restaurants, theater and people can share the frame without looking out of proportion.
For every landmark we first found real photos as references, then made a miniature version: the Laobian Dumpling Restaurant sign, the neon storefront of the Liu Laogen Grand Stage and the big screen at the Octagonal Pavilion are all instantly recognizable to people from Shenyang.
Laobian Dumpling RestaurantLiu Laogen Grand Stage
Throughout the film, the hero always wears a white shirt, black trousers and white sneakers, and Xiaokuai keeps the same orange look. As the scenes change from bedroom to starry sky, to the Imperial Palace, to the snack street, viewers always know who is walking.
Clip · 00:28–00:35
Landing and strolling
Touching down at Octagonal Pavilion Square, the camera switches to following them from behind into the lantern-lined snack street.
03
Phones, signs and gala names, all true to life
This film was jointly presented by a platform and a cultural tourism operator, so every product and name on screen had to hold up to close inspection.
In the first version, the phone in the opening was a common generic design. The client wanted a Chinese-brand handset with Kuaishou's real launch screen. We matched the shape, punch-hole front camera and screen content to a real phone item by item, then refined the screen in image-editing software.
First version: a generic phone designFinal: handset model and screen content matched to the real phone
Same with the snack street. The client wanted real Fangcheng shops to appear, so we replaced the stall signs on both sides with real shop names, and changed the characters to a from-behind follow shot, so viewers feel like they're strolling right behind them.
First version: walking toward the camera, holding skewersFinal: followed from behind, with real shops on both sides
The title on the countdown venue was also changed from the placeholder “Kuaishou 2026 New Year Gala” to the gala's official name, “2026 Kuaishou · Shenyang Fangcheng 6th New Year's Eve Gala.”
04
The countdown: the venue stays still, the numbers change
In a ten-second countdown, changing the scene every second would dazzle the audience. We kept the front-on composition of the venue fixed: the stage and the hero's back in the middle, and a Xiaokuai sitting on the rooftop on each side, with only the number in the sky changing.
The ten numbers use ten materials: blue network lines, green code, orange light particles, purple light ribbons, a plant sprouting new shoots and red pixel blocks, with the last four seconds saved for the glazed tiles, snowflakes, industrial gears and ten million smiling faces named in the client's script.
Clip · 00:44–00:51
Counting from new shoots to smiling faces
From 6 to 1, the material changes every second while the venue and crowd stay still.
The client wanted the midnight moment itself handed to the live venue. We removed the countdown voiceover and the number “0” from the film, so it goes from 1 straight to fireworks and greetings, and the host leads the whole crowd in shouting midnight. That's how the film and the gala connect.
After midnight: fireworks, cheers and the second greeting
05
One set of visuals, two extra shorts
Halfway through the main film, the client needed two more standalone shorts: a New Year greeting to air on January 1, and a teaser telling people where the gala would be held. The client had only one requirement: each had to stand on its own and not look like a clip cut from the main film.
We switched the time to daytime and had Xiaokuai explore Shenyang on its own: Shenyang Station, a European-style historic building, the Zhongjie archway, the Dazheng Hall of the Shenyang Imperial Palace and the riverbank beneath the TV tower. At each stop, an electronic sign beside it shows a line of text.
Clip · 00:13–00:22
The last two stops of the greeting version
In front of Dazheng Hall it reads “Fangcheng Full of Warmth · Joyful Reunions”; beneath the TV tower, “Experience the Lively Northeast on Kuaishou.”
The teaser reuses the same route and scenes, swapping only the electronic signs for the gala's name and “Dec 31, 22:30, West Zhongjie, See You There.” No scenes needed to be remade, and text changes were quick.

What this project achieved
For the client, one collaboration produced three films for different purposes: the midnight countdown at the gala, New Year greetings on New Year's Day and an event teaser before the gala, all in a unified style with both the platform's and the city's information built in.
For anyone making AI videos, this project offers three takeaways:
Turn the script into a route first. When there's a lot of information, linking it through one character's actions works better than listing items one by one.
Check brand and product details against the real thing. Phones, shop signs and event names are hard for AI to get right in one pass; they need to be checked item by item and, when necessary, refined in image-editing software.
One set of scenes, multiple versions by swapping text. Once the background and characters are set, swapping only the on-screen text quickly produces variants such as the greeting and teaser versions.
FAQ
FAQ
How long does an AI New Year's Eve countdown video take from brief to delivery?
We received the brief in early December, first produced the storyboard and key frames for the client to confirm, delivered the first cut of the main film in mid-December, and had all three films (the 63-second main film and two 23-second shorts) finalized on December 26, about three weeks in all.
Can landmarks in an AI cultural tourism promo look like the real thing?
Yes. For every landmark we first found real photos as references, then generated images in a unified miniature style. The Shenyang Imperial Palace, Laobian Dumpling Restaurant, Liu Laogen Grand Stage, Octagonal Pavilion, Zhongjie archway, Shenyang Station and TV tower in the film are all recreated from the shapes and signs of the real buildings.
How does the countdown video work with the live gala?
The venue composition holds still during the countdown and only the numbers change, so the live audience can keep their eyes on them; at the client's request, the countdown voiceover and the number “0” were removed from the film, the host leads the midnight shout on site, and the film goes from 1 straight to fireworks and greetings.
How many versions can one project produce?
This project delivered three 1920 × 1080 landscape films: a 63-second countdown main film, a 23-second New Year greeting version and a 23-second event teaser. The two shorts share the same scenes and characters, swapping only the text on the electronic signs, so adding versions is fast.
Approach
Characters, city scenes and the midnight segment
In the phone segment, the phone's shape, screen content and front camera were all based on a real handset, with the screen image then refined locally; the over-the-shoulder view, the poster close-up and the dive into the image flow as one move. The opening needed to feel like a fantastical gateway while keeping the real product and event information clearly legible.
Each shot has its own character positions, composition and action: the aerial tour uses follow and push-in moves, the landing and street scenes have the hero and the IP character walking forward together, and the countdown keeps one consistent venue. The white-shirted hero, the orange Xiaokuai and the warm light of the night scenes run through the whole film, so viewers can keep up however the locations and shot sizes change.
Delivery was split by purpose into three films: the countdown main film, the New Year greeting and the event teaser. The latter two share the same daytime route and set of scenes, both walked by Xiaokuai, swapping only the text on the electronic signs: the greeting version carries New Year wishes, the teaser the gala's name, time and place. No scenes had to be remade, so adding versions and changing text were both quick.
