01 / Background
How Does an Advertising Festival Explain Information and Innovation?
The Haidian Advertising Festival's promo had to show, in one short film, both the city's strength in tech innovation and how advertising and communication have changed. The film opens with a story to draw viewers in: how information traveled from runners carrying news to the telegraph, radio, TV, computers and phones, then brings that change into present-day Haidian.
The first half is one continuous journey across the decades, with doors, windows, camera moves and each era's communication tools linking the scenes. The phone section then poses the question “how do we get better results from people's limited attention?”, and the tech parks, labs, universities and collaboration scenes that follow all build on it, showing the city environment behind information production and innovation.
02 / Creative Highlights
Using Changes in Communication Tools to Bring Out the City's Innovation
01
Telling the Evolution of Media as a Story
The film opens with an ancient Greek runner holding an olive branch, running along a mountain path. Once he runs out of frame, the camera turns to a clerk typing in an old-fashioned office, then passes through a window and a doorway to reveal, in turn, a radio in a courtyard, a TV in a living room and a computer in an office tower. Communication tools from different eras are linked by everyday actions, so the history doesn't rely on a block of explanatory text.
02
Raising the Festival's Question in the Phone Section
A woman checks her phone between glass towers, with info cards and app logos circling her, then the film cuts to a close-up of a hand swiping a screen and a crowd of people walking. The abstract idea that “communication has sped up” becomes the visible act of scrolling a phone, and a question in the subtitles then turns attention to the effectiveness of communication.
03
Using Shot Sizes and a Four-Panel Frame to Show the City's Strengths
City nightscapes and wide shots of tech parks first establish the scale of the place, then close-ups of research equipment and robotic arms bring us into the actual work. The industry section sets robotic arms, labs, clean rooms and robot showcases side by side in four panels, so different fields appear in one frame and you can see how Haidian's resources link into a network.
04
An AI Generation Request That Echoes the Opening Theme of Communication
After the campuses, robots and office spaces, a person at a meeting table asks for a brand promo video to be generated and sent out, then the film cuts to a crowd checking their phones in a transport hub. The opening is about how information arrives; the ending uses an imagined AI-advertising scene to bring the theme back to the people receiving the information.

A Theme Promo Film for the Haidian Advertising Festival
We completed a 76-second, 1920×1080, 16:9 promo film: from the evolution of communication media to Haidian's industries, campuses and talent, ending on a single request for an AI ad. About 10 days from kickoff to final cut.
Case Study
Liandan AI Studio × Haidian Advertising Festival | Starting With a Runner Carrying News, Telling Haidian's Story in 76 Seconds
Where should an advertising festival's promo film begin?
Our answer: with a runner carrying news more than two thousand years ago.
He runs out of frame, the camera turns, and we see in turn a typewriter, a radio, a TV, a computer, and finally the phone in everyone's hand.
This is our work for Haidian Advertising Festival: a 76-second promo film that first shows how information has traveled ever faster, then takes viewers through Haidian's industries, campuses and talent, and finally lands on a single request to AI.

One Minute, Four Calling Cards for One City
In the client's materials, Haidian has four identities: the ever-innovating City of Technology; the education-rich, talent-packed City of Culture; the business-empowering City of Synergy; and the deeply rooted Livable City.
The initial plan was straightforward: about 12 seconds for each part, plus a 6-second opening and a 6-second ending, around one minute in total.
The client had seen our “AI Longgang,” liked it, and wanted this film to go in a similar direction. Both the copy and the script were left to us.
We first offered several versions of the copy and written script for the client to choose from. Once the direction was set, we matched each line of copy to a specific image, creating a shot-by-shot image script.
The city sections that follow each open with “In Haidian”: In Haidian, feel the surging pulse of the times at every moment; In Haidian, focus on global frontier sectors; In Haidian, policy support nurtures growth like spring rain. When viewers hear those two words, they know the topic has changed.
02
The Client Wanted the Film to Open With a Story
Halfway through the visuals, the client had a new idea: don't open straight on the city; tell a story first.
The story's thread is how information spreads: the messenger of the ancient Greek marathon relied on running, while today people can use AI on their phones to generate ads and push them to the people who want to see them. Information travels ever faster and more easily, and from there the film moves into Haidian.
This opening fits the advertising festival's theme perfectly. We made it a single continuous shot: no cuts, so viewers travel through five eras with the camera.
Clip · 00:00–00:14
Five Eras, One Shot
A runner carrying news, a typewriter, a radio, a TV, a computer: the camera turns from one to the next without a single cut.
Each era has its own art style: the runner is gongbi painting, the typing clerk and the family watching TV are guochao illustrations, and the old man in the courtyard is in the style of Mucha. When the style changes, viewers know the era has changed without reading a subtitle.
03
A Single Continuous Shot Depends on Writing the “Next Step” Into the Prompt
The five eras are five approved frames, each generated into its own video clip. To join them into one shot, the key was making every clip's prompt spell out where the camera goes next and what it will see.
For example, the runner's clip read: the figure runs forward out of frame, the camera turns left, and a person is sending a telegram. The courtyard clip read: an old man rocks in a rocking chair, a fan spins, the camera enters the leftmost doorway, and a family of three is watching TV.
Opening, final: an ancient Greek runner in gongbi styleThe third era: an old man listening to the radio in a courtyard on a summer night
Door frames, windows and doorways became the links between eras. The camera sweeps past a door frame, and behind it is another era.
Clip · 00:04–00:09
From the Typewriter to the Courtyard
The camera leaves the typing clerk, passes the window and turns into a farmhouse courtyard at night.
04
From “Traveling Fast” to “Getting Noticed”
Communication tools reach the phone, and the film stops to ask a question: information is being produced and spread faster than ever, so how do we get better results from people's limited attention?
That's what the advertising festival really wants to discuss. Once the question is asked, the style shifts from hand-drawn to realistic, and the first “In Haidian” line appears.
For the shot of the Western Hills and the ancient pagoda at sunset, we first made an image with only the hills and pagoda, then reworked the same composition to add rows of high-rises, using the two images as the first and last frames. In the time-lapse video, the city slowly grows in front of the ancient pagoda, putting “historical heritage” and “a city of tech innovation” in the same shot.
First frame: the Western Hills and an ancient pagoda at sunsetLast frame: rows of high-rises grow in the same composition
The industry section had many sectors to cover: computing power, pharmaceutical R&D, semiconductors, robotics. Filming them one by one would never fit into a minute. We combined four scenes into a four-panel grid on one screen, generating the motion for each panel separately, so in three seconds viewers can see how broad Haidian's industries are.
A Request at the End Brings the Theme Back to Advertising
After the campuses, talent and companies, the film returns to the question from the beginning.
At a meeting table, a young person picks up a phone and says: “Xiaoguang, generate a sci-fi-style brand promo video for me and push it to our target audience in a compliant way.” This shot uses lip sync, so the line matches the mouth movements.
A horizontal whip pan cuts into a busy transport hub, where travelers look down at their phones; a screen lights up, and the message has arrived. The runner carrying news at the start finds his answer here.
Clip · 01:05–01:16
One Request, Then Streets Full of Phones
After the line, a whip pan cuts to the transport hub and the film closes on the crowd looking at their phones: Seize the opportunity: the future is already here.
06
What this project achieved
The most common challenge with city promo films is too much material: GDP, industries, universities, policies, landmarks; everyone wants to include everything.
This film's approach was to first find a thread viewers would want to follow: how information travels ever faster. It ties into the advertising festival's theme and naturally leads the camera to Haidian's industries, campuses and talent.
AI let us travel through five eras in five art styles in just over a minute, then connect to realistic scenes of the city, labs and campuses. But which line goes with which image, where to switch styles, where to ask the question and where to end are creative judgments.
It took about 10 days from kickoff to final cut, with copywriting, scripting, image generation, video generation and editing all done in-house.
FAQ
FAQ
Can an AI city promo film show real landmarks?
Yes. For the Tsinghua gate, the Peking University gate and the Zhongguancun parks in this film, we first collected real photos as references, then generated images in a consistent style, keeping the landmarks recognizable while matching the lighting and color of the whole film.
How do images from different eras and in different art styles join into one shot?
We first make one approved frame for each era, then generate a video from each. The prompt spells out where the camera turns next and what it sees, such as “the figure runs out of frame, the camera turns left, and a person is sending a telegram,” and door frames, windows and doorways serve as links, so the clips can be edited into a single continuous shot.
How long does a one-minute-plus AI promo film take from brief to delivery?
This project kicked off in mid-October 2025 and was locked in about 10 days: first we delivered the copy and written script for the client to confirm the direction, then matched each line of copy to an approved frame, generated the videos, did a rough cut and a fine cut, and finally added the end card.
What are the specs of the finished film?
The film runs 76 seconds, 16:9 landscape, 1920×1080. We also compiled the approved frames for every shot and a document of the image and video prompts to make future revisions easy.
Approach
From a Media Story to the City Sections
Based on the client's materials, we split tech innovation, talent, business support and the cultural environment into four sections, and wrote the copy and script ourselves. The film opens with a story about how communication tools evolved, and each city section begins with “In Haidian.” The finished film ties the media story, the city's strengths and the closing communication scene into one storyline.
The historical section uses a painterly texture and a continuous journey to show the passing eras, while the industry section shifts to realistic spaces, close-ups of equipment and multiple images side by side. Each visual style handles different content: the first part takes viewers through change, the second concentrates on the city's resources, and the ending returns to the everyday act of receiving information on a phone.
