01 / Background
Counting one to ten through Longgang’s past and future
To tell Longgang’s story, you have to cover the dragon legend, Hakka culture, industry and technology, universities, and sports and cultural life. The final script strings these together with the numbers one to ten: it opens with “one dragon lineage” and moves through geography, history, population, industry and public well-being before landing on “toward a perfect-ten future.” That gives very different city scenes a clear order, and viewers remember what the whole film covered.
The visuals needed tradition and modern innovation to flow into each other naturally. The film first sets up the local character with golden landscapes, Hakka walled houses and the qilin dance, then puts an old pavilion and the modern skyline in one frame and sends a train speeding ahead to bring in industry. The later part shifts to blue, tech-toned imagery, running from drones, digital campuses and the Universiade Center through to concerts and sports. History and culture become the opening act for the city’s future, and technological progress lands in residents’ everyday lives.
02 / Creative Highlights
Numbers, images and captions move the story forward together
01
The numbers one to ten put every kind of city content in order
The final script runs from “one dragon lineage” to “a perfect-ten future,” and the on-screen captions follow the same order. The numbers are easy to remember and also mark the section changes: culture leads into development, industry leads into people’s lives. Even with so much packed into just over a minute, viewers can follow a single thread.
02
Qilin dance, an old pavilion and a train carry heritage into the modern city
The culture section captures the movement of the qilin dance and the look of traditional architecture; then pavilions and modern towers share a frame, and a train speeds forward. Shared framing and forward momentum link tradition and modernity, so the city’s development follows naturally from its cultural heritage.
03
Place labels plus captions: good-looking and easy to place
Names of intangible heritage, industrial parks, companies and universities appear in green-bordered labels beside the matching shots, with the main script at the bottom. The captions highlight one to ten, and their style shifts with the content, from the cultural first half to the modern second half. The two layers of text each do a job: one carries the theme, the other tells viewers where they are.
04
From digital campuses to concerts and sports: a future you can feel
The second half puts AI, VR and drones on campuses and at the Universiade Center, then moves on to concerts, basketball and cycling. New technology and residents’ everyday activities share one section, so “people’s well-being” and the vision of the future both come with concrete scenes from daily life.

A city short that sticks in the memory
We completed a 1 min 28 s, 1920×1080 landscape creative city short for Longgang, using the numbers one to ten to link Longgang’s origins, industrial innovation and residents’ lives. It is a self-initiated entry by Liandan AI Studio for the Global AI Visual Competition (VACAT Awards), completed in September 2024, submitted on Bilibili and also published on WeChat Channels.
Case Study
AI Longgang | Counting from one to ten: a whole city in 88 seconds
Longgang has a dragon legend and 300-year-old Hakka walled houses, as well as Huawei, BYD and two international universities.
How do you fit all that into a minute and a half and still have people remember it?
In September 2024, Liandan AI Studio created this Longgang city short on its own initiative for the Global AI Visual Competition (VACAT Awards), using the numbers one to ten as its thread, from “one dragon lineage” to “a perfect-ten future.”

Too much to cover, so first find a thread
Before starting, the team watched the existing Longgang promos across platforms and the other entries in the competition. There was a lot to cover: the dragon legend, Hakka culture, population and economic data, industry and technology, universities, sports and performances. Listed one by one, it could easily turn into a city checklist.
The earliest concept had a voice assistant guide viewers around Longgang. Test images showed that it was hard to make the character appear naturally in every scene, and it stole the spotlight from the city. The team dropped it and made a pure city promo instead.
The thread the final script found was the numbers one to ten: one dragon lineage, 22 degrees north, three hundred years of Hakka heritage, four million residents, a leap to 500 billion, six years in the top 100, seven major industries, 80% of fiscal spending, one of nine districts, and finally “toward a perfect-ten future.” Nine lines, one number each: viewers count their way through the whole film.
Clip · 00:00–00:04
Starting from “one”
A green dragon circles through clouds and peaks and settles on a summit, as the voiceover says “One dragon lineage, rising from Wutong Mountain.”
02
Every number gets a set of visuals you can see
Numbers are easy to remember, but reciting them alone is dry. We gave every line visuals that read instantly: for “22 degrees north,” the Earth in space pushing in to southern China; for “three hundred years of Hakka heritage,” Hakka people dancing in a circle in a round walled house and the gate of Hehu New Residence; for “six years in the top 100,” a row of robotic arms on a production line.
Final: Hakka dance in a walled house, for “three hundred years of Hakka heritage”Final: qilin dance, for “dazzling intangible heritage”
Finer data stays out of the voiceover and goes into the on-screen green-bordered labels: “By the end of 2023, Longgang had over 4 million residents across 14 subdistricts,” “GDP growth ranks first among Shenzhen’s districts,” “South China’s first comprehensive drone application test base.” The voiceover makes it memorable; the labels make it clear.
Clip · 00:39–00:44
One voiceover line, one set of data
The control room is labeled “GDP growth ranks first among Shenzhen’s districts” and the robotic arm line “Topped the national list of top 100 industrial districts for 6 consecutive years,” while the voiceover below just says “six years in the top 100.”
03
From gold to blue: linking tradition and technology
The first half covers origins and culture, unified by golden light: beams in the valley, gardens at sunset, the lakeside pavilion. The second half covers technology and campuses and switches to blue throughout: the glowing digital district, chips, the R&D center, the drone over the city.
A few “old and new in one frame” shots bridge the two halves. The image prompts specifically called for a contrast between historic buildings and high-rises: the old pavilion in front, glass towers behind; historic pavilions lit up as a light-rail train runs on the elevated track beside them. Viewers see two Longgangs in a single image, so the transition doesn’t feel abrupt.
Final: the old pavilion in front, high-rises behindFinal: light rail passing historic pavilions

Trains carry the film forward
A bullet train races along the platform, then a light-rail train passes historic buildings; the images keep charging forward, moving from culture into development.

Real places, built on real footage
Locals recognize the landmarks in a city promo at a glance. Before starting, the team gathered photos and aerial videos of Longgang’s main landmarks as references for image generation.
Places like Tian An Cloud Park, the Galaxy Twin Towers and Huawei headquarters were reimagined with AI under a golden sunset, with their names in green-bordered labels beside them. For The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, real aerial footage served as the base and was restyled with AI to match the rest of the film; for historic buildings like Hehu New Residence, a tech style was tried, didn’t fit, and gave way to a more realistic look.

Two universities
CUHK-Shenzhen’s building lights up with cyan lines, followed by the towers of MSU-BIT University, both restyled from real aerial footage.
05
Voiceover, captions and the ending follow the picture
The first voiceover was recorded line by line, and once cut into the film, the lines didn’t flow into each other. We marked where each line starts in the picture and had the voice artist re-record while watching the film, timing it to the images and music, with specific notes on how to land the endings of “Longgang’s name runs long” and “dazzling intangible heritage.”
Captions work on two layers: voiceover subtitles at the bottom follow the sound; green-bordered labels beside the image carry place names and data and follow the shots. At the end, every shot in the film shrinks into an image wall, paired with the last line, “toward a perfect-ten future,” bringing all of the Longgang seen earlier back into one frame.
Clip · 01:23–01:28
Closing on the image wall
The dragon, walled houses, chips, cycling… every shot in the film comes together, with the caption “Toward a perfect-ten future.”
06
What this project achieved
This is a 1 min 28 s, 1920×1080 creative city short that took less than two weeks from kickoff on September 10 to submission on September 22.
For clients planning a city promo, it offers a structure that works:use one simple thread (here, the numbers one to ten) to put many kinds of information in order, pair each voiceover line with a set of images, put the data into on-screen labels, and build landmarks on real footage.AI makes images fast, but what makes a film memorable is the thread.
For people learning AI video, this project breaks down into steps you can follow directly: settle the script’s thread first, write image prompts line by line, use color tone to separate sections, transition with “old and new in one frame” shots, and finally have the voiceover re-recorded to the finished cut.
FAQ
FAQ
In an AI city promo, how do you make the landmarks recognizable to locals?
Before production, we gathered photos and aerial videos of Longgang’s main landmarks as references. The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shenzhen MSU-BIT University were built on real aerial footage and restyled with AI into a consistent look; landmarks such as Tian An Cloud Park, the Galaxy Twin Towers, Huawei headquarters and the Universiade Center are all named in green-bordered labels beside them.
A city has so much to say. How do you make viewers remember it?
This film uses the numbers one to ten as its thread: one dragon lineage, 22 degrees north, three hundred years of Hakka heritage, four million residents… all the way to “toward a perfect-ten future.” Each voiceover line carries one number and a set of images; finer data goes into labels beside the image, and the voiceover keeps only the memorable line.
How long does a 90-second AI city short take?
This film kicked off on September 10, starting with research on existing Longgang promos, scriptwriting and gathering landmark references; from September 17, image generation, video generation, editing and voiceover ran in one concentrated push, and the film was completed and submitted on September 22, less than two weeks in all.
What are the specs, and where was it published?
The film runs 1 min 28 s, 16:9 landscape, 1920×1080. It was submitted on Bilibili to the Global AI Visual Competition (VACAT Awards) and also published on WeChat Channels.
Approach
From the final script to coordinating visuals and voiceover
The final script first puts the city’s information in order by the numbers one to ten; the voiceover script then marks the stress and closing tone of each short line, with captions and voiceover set to appear at roughly the same time. On-screen place labels and the main captions each handle one job, so key numbers and place names appear with the matching shots.
Scene descriptions for landscapes, Hakka architecture, transport, industry, campuses and events were written section by section for image generation. The film presents them in AI imagery: golden light and traditional architecture up front, blue tech spaces later, and a final look back at the landscape and the city. As the colors and scenes change, culture, development and daily life build layer by layer.
