Five modules, one method
From the problem, layout and construction to long-term behaviour—one module per step, each in stages you can scrub to any moment.
New methods and structures must be explained to reviewers, owners and site crews—but forces and deformation are invisible. This lab draws a 40 m prestressed concrete box girder in code: from a plain beam cracking, through tendon layout, tensioning, traffic and overload, to prestress loss after ten years.
Deflection, stress and cracking are computed live from beam mechanics. Drag the lane load or jacking force, or switch the tendon to a straight line, and the visuals and curves respond. Your own method or structure can be made the same way—as video, GIFs or a web demo.
40 m span · 2.4 m deep · C50 concrete · 16 tendons × 19 φ15.2 strands
Without prestress, a 40 m reinforced concrete beam cracks under its own weight; more load means more, deeper cracks and a deeper sag.
Tendons dip near the soffit at midspan and rise to the centroid at the ends, giving the biggest upward push at midspan without cracking the ends. Try switching the profile to straight.
As force is applied stage by stage, the soffit goes into compression, midspan rises and the girder lifts off the falsework—its weight now carried by prestress and concrete together.
Prestress pre-compresses the soffit; traffic only uses up part of it, so the soffit never goes into tension—no cracks, and a fraction of the plain beam’s sag. Watch how much reserve is left under overload.
Strand relaxation, shrinkage and creep erode prestress over the first years. Design must include these losses so the soffit still won’t crack under full load after ten years.

Deflection, top and soffit stress and crack locations come from beam mechanics; the curves and the drawing share the same numbers.
Load, jacking force and tendon profile are adjustable, so reviewers and clients can try “what if” themselves.
The same lab records as 4K video, splits into step GIFs, or runs on your website, showroom touchscreen or in a review meeting.
